Basemark has just raised 7 million euros and we did a short interview with Keith Silverang, its CEO, to ask about Basemark’s plans.
How would you describe Basemark in a single tweet?
KS: Basemark provides solutions that optimize embedded automotive software development & performance through advanced orchestration of graphics & compute resources.
How did it all start and why?
KS: it started when our founder & majority shareholder Tero Sarkkinen successfully exited from his previous venture, Rightware, spinning off that company’s benchmarking business into Basemark. That benchmark business is still with us, spearheading our entry with many of our automotive & SOC customers.
What have you achieved so far?
KS: We have leveraged that benchmark business into a successful professional engineering service for those same OEMs, successfully commercialized a new automotive performance measurement tool called BATS (Basemark Automotive Testing Suite) and built a unique graphics & compute engine called Rocksolid that is the foundation for the graphics-compute orchestration software where our future lies.
We have grown from just under 3 million euros in 2018 to over 8 million in 2019 and we expect around 9 million this year.
We’ve also built a world-class team with deep and broad international experience and talent that is passionate about our mission and driven to get it done.
And unlike many scale ups who have exotic tech but no paying customers, Basemark has a strong portfolio of paying blue chip customers who are pushing us to develop our products in the right direction.
How will you use your recent funding round?
KS: We will use the money to accelerate our product development in order to shorten time to market and we will boost our sales & marketing firepower.
What do you plan to achieve in the next 2-3 years?
KS: Profitable double-digit growth and successful execution of our strategy, which hinges on the successful deployment of the Rock Solid product family among automotive OEMs.
