Combinostics has raised €4.3M in total. We talked with Lennart Thurfjell, its CEO.
How would you describe Combinostics in a single tweet?
Combinostics provides an AI-based tool that supports healthcare providers in early diagnosis and improved management of Alzheimer’s and other neurodegenerative diseases.
How did it all start and why?
The core technology was developed by VTT in collaboration with clinicians in an EU-project around the early diagnosis of dementia (PredictND). The project focused on how to combine all different data types that typically are collected when patients are being evaluated for suspected dementia. The project was very successful and we saw that the tool developed filled a clear clinical need. We started the company to make sure that the results of the PredictND project could be further developed into a regulatory approved product that could help clinicians in dementia diagnosis on a broader scale.
What have you achieved so far?
We have received regulatory clearance for our tool called cNeuro, both in the EU and the US. Our customers include hospitals and radiology service providers in Europe and we are now expanding to the US. We have entered into a partnership with Siemens Healthineers, where cNeuro is integrated into Siemens cloud offering, and Siemens will sell cNeuro starting in the EU and the US but eventually, this collaboration will be global. We have also a specific collaboration with Nihon Medi-Physics around launching cNeuro in Japan.
How will you use your recent funding round?
We will use the funding to grow our commercial team with a strong focus on the US market, where we will hire sales and marketing resources. We will also ramp up R&D and develop adjacent products, such as web-based cognitive test tools.
What do you plan to achieve in the next 2-3 years?
The most important thing is to grow usage. In addition to the EU and the US, we will launch cNeuro in South Korea, Japan (with a partner) and in Brazil. We will also expand into new disease areas.
