Core has raised $4M in total. We talk with Sarah McDevitt, its CEO.
PetaCrunch: How would you describe Core in a single tweet?
Sarah McDevitt: Core is a modern wellness movement launching an immersive meditation experience, guided by audio, vibrations, and stress-level tracking.
PC: How did it all start and why?
SM: My co-founder and I met in grad school at Stanford and started Core based on our own experiences with stress and anxiety, and our exploration of practical tools like meditation.
We noticed that while in pursuit of our goals, whether it was playing basketball or performing at the office, we were often getting in our own way. And we weren’t alone. So, we developed a way to bring meditation fully into our lifestyle to push through all the curve balls that life throws at us – it’s a solution we want to share with the world. We believe that the mind is a muscle – one that Core can help you train, care for, and flex, so you can live your best life.
PC: What have you achieved so far?
SM: We closed a $4 million seed round after the completion of a private beta last year that sold out, attracting Grammy award-winning artists and professional athletes, as well as engagements with companies like Lululemon and Saks 5th Ave.
PC: How will you use your recent funding round?
SM: We are rapidly growing our team with top talent across engineering, marketing, and more. We are launching an in-person experience in San Francisco this winter and the Core meditation trainer will be available for sale, online, in the New Year. Join our email waitlist here to be the first to hear about events, news, and opportunities to join Core, and stay up-to-date on the latest personal stories in wellness on our blog GoodPillar.
PC: What do you plan to achieve in the next 2-3 years?
SM: Our mission is to cement mental wellness as a pillar of modern life. Over the next 2-3 years, we will be creating and nurturing a community that strives to care for our minds with the same energy that we take care of our bodies. We are designing multiple products, services, and experiences to serve this purpose, and have pledged to give 1% of profits or products to mental health causes.
